Chalk Hill Remodel

The Concept

This home underwent a full interior transformation to evolve from dated and enclosed to modern and light-filled; from the inside out, nearly every aspect was reimagined. Rather than expanding the square footage, the focus was on opening up sight lines and enhancing the indoor-outdoor connection, thereby creating a home that feels entirely new for a beautiful Healdsburg area property.

Additional windows were added across the front elevation, and a glass front door opening on to a new front deck of thermal treated wood reinforced the home’s new openness and sense of arrival. The kitchen layout was reconfigured to welcome more daylight: a new long, tall window replaces the traditional wrap-around countertop, creating a visual connection between the kitchen and the front of the house. In the rear, a new multi-panel slider was added to connect the expansive back patio to the refurbished pool deck. Behind the vanity in the primary bathroom a full large window was added behind the mirrors to bring in more light while still allowing some view. Interior finishes and fixtures were upgraded throughout, including multiple custom built-ins and contemporary hardware and lighting. A new surround sound system was added to the media room, and built-in bunkbeds were added in a playful kids’ zone,

On the exterior, the overhang of the roof was cut back at the rear to open up views, immediately transforming the feel of the formerly dark, boxed-in rooms. A sleek new metal roof was installed, and bulky concrete posts were removed from the back deck and replaced with a mechanized louver system that opens and closes to adjust shading. The pool cabana was transformed from an open shed to a building enclosed on three sides with a new bathroom/changing room volume, pizza oven, and outdoor kitchen, with fully closing automated insect screens, which also provided additional shading. The landscape was completely redone, including poured concrete pavers connecting the buildings with the pool and a new in-ground spa that completed the transformation, bringing new life to the built environment of this extraordinary site.
