What is 108 A&D?

Housed in the most modern storefront in town at the edge of the Sebastopol Plaza, 108 Art & Design was conceived as a locus for design and education about the built environment.

While primarily the headquarters of our architecture office, the space is also a gallery showing local artists, a space for lectures and events, and a teaching venue. It is also the birthplace of The Core Project, A Study to Vitalize Sebastopol.

Randy Tuell

sculptor and metal artist

For more than three decades, Randy Tuell has explored the expressive potential of metal through furniture, lighting, and sculptural design. His work is rooted in a deep understanding of craft, material, and the natural processes that shape the world around us.

His current body of work focuses on moments of transformation. Using a handheld torch on thin sheets of pure zinc, Randy manipulates heat, gravity, and time to create compositions that capture metal in a fleeting state between solid and liquid. The resulting pieces evoke natural phenomena—weathering, erosion, crystallization, and flow—while revealing the inherent beauty of an industrial material. Finished with hand-applied patinas, each work becomes a unique record of process, chance, and change.

Balancing precision with experimentation, Randy's sculptures invite close observation and reflect an enduring fascination with the ways materials evolve, adapt, and tell stories over time.
